Since 1988 the Belisario Cellars have been producing this wine, the "lighthouse" of Verdicchio di
Matelica Riserva dog. Here is our report from the celebratory vertical from 2017 to 1994.
Considered by the NYT as" a white dressed in red", Verdicchio di Matelica is a quality niche among the
Marche appellations are protected by the Marche Institute for the protection of wines (Imt). Doc since 1967
and since 2010 also Dog with the Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva typology, the denomination extends over
286 hectares, divided between 19 wineries and 8 municipalities (Matelica, Esanatoglia, Gagliole,
Castelraimondo, Camerino and Pioraco in the province of Macerata; Cerreto D'Esi and Fabriano in that of
Ancona), in the heart of Alta Vallesina, is the only valley in the Marche region with a North-South layout.
Among the producers of Matelica, the lion's share is certainly made by Cantine Belisario which produces
about 75% of the wine of the entire appellation. Founded in 1971, it is a lively cooperative that extends
over 300 hectares of vineyards, with a 30,000 hl cellar managed by the oenologist Roberto Potentini
owner of collaborations with many wineries in the Marche region (such as La Monacesca).
Big numbers, no doubt, and above all for the Marche, but not only those: the winery, over the years, has
in fact been able to maintain an important average quality over the years, represented by what for many
has been a real "enological beacon" for the denomination: the " Cambrugiano"
Produced since 1988, this Verdicchio di Matelica was the first of the Riserva type. Vinified only with
Verdicchio grapes through cryomaceration, it has always followed a maturation process both in steel and
in oak wood, with subsequent aging in the bottle for at least another year before being released on the Market!
Great News* This is a wonderful structured, Full-bodied, and round white wine. The 2017 Verdicchio Cambrugiano Riserva DOCG is the wine with which Belisario has experienced the greatest winemaking. Enjoy this fabulous wine lightly chilled with seafood dishes.
