The wine is aged in large oak barrels for months, and then aged for at least 18 months in the bottle before it is released. The goal is to produce a wine that is the best expression of Sangiovese in the area. Considering Avi received the Tre Bicchieri award seven times in the past ten years (including a Tre Bicchieri Plus for this particular vintage), it is fair to say the goal is reached!

Such an important wine should have a special dedication. “Avi” is short for “A Vicenzo”, which means “For Vicenzo”. Vicenzo Muccioli is the founder of the San Patrignano community, which includes the winery, farm, nursery, and more. Since 1978, San Patrignano has welcomed and rehabilitated over 18,000 socially marginalized individuals and drug addicts by financially supporting their recovery and educating them in a multitude of areas. We strongly suggest you look at their website. They are a truly impressive, nationally recognized community.

This wine is ruby red tending to light burgundy red.  The bouquet is reminicent of intense graphite, rust, morello cherry dipped in chocolate, mint, dry hay, and violet. The taste satisfies the olfactory pleasure lavishing sensations of black truffle, violet, liquorice and plum. Wine with a rich alcoholic content and as much freshness with wide tannin, initially velvety and then ending a bit dry, as fully characterized by the vine. The wine is remarkable for its density, richness and concentration, all of which have been achieved while maintaining clarity and freshness. The French oak is beautifully integrated in this sumptuous, generous Brunello. Suggestions of flowers and spices add notes of brightness on the finish. The Brunello spent a whopping 40 months in 25-hectoliter medium-sized casks prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019." Rober Parker's Wine Advocate, 92 Points
