Avi is the premier Sangiovese
offering from San Patrignano. They select half of their best Sangiovese
vines, which are trained in the guyot method with further selection on
the sorting table, to produce the best expression of Sangiovese
in the area. The wine is aged in large oak barrels for months, and then refines
for
at least 18 months in the bottle before it is released. Not surprisingly, Avi
received the Tre Bicchieri
award seven times in the past ten years (including a Tre
Bicchieri
Plus for this particular vintage). Pair it with pizza,
meaty pasta, cold cuts, dry & creamy cheeses, roasted
pork,
and sausages. Since 1978, San Patrignano
has welcomed and rehabilitated over 18,000 socially marginalized individuals
and drug addicts by financially supporting their recovery and educating them in
a multitude of areas. Avi is the nickname of Vicenzo
Muccioli,
the founder of the San Patrignano nationally recognized community,
which includes the winery, farm, nursery, and more.
