The
great-great-grandfather of the Coati family, Giuseppe, started off the business, mainly
working in the vineyards. Great-grandfather Fortunato was the first to
make small quantities of Recioto and Amarone. Grandfather Giuseppe and
his son Bruno carried on the family business until 1998 when Bruno’s
daughter Elena and son Federico founded Corte Rugolin. They introduced
important innovations and know-how with the aim of obtaining an
excellent product and offering it on the international market. The
company took its name from the antique rural courtyard, which is also
its seat, that dates back to the end of the 16th century. It is set in
the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, with its ideal microclimate
for the cultivation of vines, between Monti Lessini, the plains, and
Lake Garda.
At
present, Elena deals with the administrative and commercial side of the
business while Federico looks after the vines and the wine production.
They can count on the invaluable advice of their Enologist, Paolo
Grigoli.
