Catarratto is a white Italian wine grape planted primarily in Sicily where it is the most widely planted grape responsible for above 60 % of plantings on the whole island. In the Etna DOC, the grape is often blended with Minella Bianca and Carricante. Wines from Cataratto grapes typically will have flavors of grapefruits, citrus and apricots balanced by good acidity and subtle minerality.

Catarratto is also allowed in Alcamo DOC along with a few surprising other white varietals such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Grillo, Inzolia (Ansonica), Grecanino and Muller-Thurgau.
Catarrato Grapes

It is also used widely in IGT wines, where less stringent winemaking regulations let winemakers coax more from the grape. Here, it is blended with other varieties like Inzolia, Grillo Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, but rarely shows up as a varietal wine. Finally Catarratto along with Grillo, Inzolia and Damaschino is one of the main ingredients for Sicily’s famous fortified wine Marsala
