Aglianico del Vulture DOC
Basilicata has always represented a real nodal junction of the archaic traffics of Southern Italy during the Greek colonization of Vitis vinifera: all the known vines were brought and acclimatized in Europe in the Enotria area and Lucania, therefore, had a role central in the development of viticulture since 1300 BC. The IGT Basilicata, the 4 DOCs - Aglianico del Vulture, Grottino di Roccanova, Matera, Terre del Alta Val d'Agri - and 1 DOCG, attributed in 2011 to Aglianico del Vulture Superiore and the Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva.
To this scenario is added the discovery of the Guarnaccino grape, an autonomous variety from an enological point of view, which highlights the potential of a biotype with appreciable vine-growing qualities which, as far as distant relationships could be selected from the seed of Bordeaux varieties, on the moors of the territory of Chiaromonte.
