Casa d'Ambra
is one of the great wine estates of Italy and represents a gem of viticulture found
on the tiny island of Ischia off the coast of Naples. These
vineyards are
located on the volcanic cliffs of the island that rise up to a dramatic 600
meters above sea level. The scenery is absolutely stunning with trellised vines
overlooking an azure seascape.
The 2018 Casa D Ambra
Frassitelli
is an absolutely exceptional expression of Biancolella.
These
grapes are grown
in a four-hectare vineyard on a steep cliff overlooking the Mediterranean at
600 meters above sea level: this is "extreme
viticultureā,
given
the hardships of harvesting in these difficult conditions. The wine is
fermented in stainless steel for 8 months.
Frassitelli, from 100% Biancolella grapes, certainly the most celebrated in Ischia and among the most performing in the entire Campania region, is a white wine of great class and elegance. It shows a straw-yellow color with golden reflections. The nose opens with a complex bouquet of aromatic herbs, rosemary, thyme, medlar, white currant, and broom, followed by saline notes. In the mouth, it shows greedily sapid, with a round but slender body towards a long finish of honey. Excellent served with appetizers and first courses based on fish, such as linguini with prawns.
93 points Vinous
Luminous straw-yellow. Aromas and flavors of lemon curd, minerals, bay leaf, and lemon verbena. Outstanding, balanced, and very refined, showcasing a strongly saline and delicately herbal finish complicated by strokes of ripe citrus and apricot. Knockout wine. (ID) (11/2019)
