This blend of Cannonau, Carignano, Muristellu, Cagnulari, and Bovale was surprisingly almost created by chance, but Quartomoro Orriu decided to perpetuate it because it embodies the essence of Sardinia. The color is a bright garnet with orange reflections. Initially shy on the nose, the bouquet open up gradually, with intense aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant, jack fruit, and flowers, followed by jams, punch, dark chocolate, spices, saw dust, eucalyptus, and Mediterranean forest. It is vigorous, aromatic, bombastic, and powerful. The palate is tense, warm, and smooth, with flavors of cherry, plum, dark berries, sweet herbs, and a light note of pepper. It has an initial bitter tinge in the back palate, and a long lingering finish full of herbs, dark chocolate, and fruit. This original wine is the perfect balance of tradition and modernity, and matches fabulously with savory food or roasted and BBQ meat.
