Tenuta Benedetta Vigna
Laura Etna Rosso IGP
is made from 80% Nerello Mascalese and
20% Nerello Cappuccio.
These grapes are grown on mineral-rich volcanic
soils,
in
vineyards dating back to the early 1900's, planted on the northern slopes of
Mount Etna, in
the Sicilian
province of Catania.
After hand-harvesting, the
grapes are fermented at controlled temperatures in small stainless steel vats.
The wine is then aged for 12 months in 500 liter French oak tonneaux, and refined
for a further period
of 6 months in
the bottle. In
the glass,
the
wine is a vibrant burgundy red color. The nose is highly complex,
with
aromas of dried red flowers, fresh berries, cherries, freshly ground coffee,
and
mineral notes.
On the palate,
Vigna
Laura is layered
with flavors of black cherries, wild raspberries, cooking herbs, balsamic,
hints of volcanic minerals, salient salinity, mouth filling smooth tannins,
brisk acidity,
and a
long persistent finish.
This fabulous wine will
pair well with aged
cheeses, assorted
salumi, red
meats, and
meaty
pasta
dishes
.
