Description

The 2014 Tenuta Benedetta Vigna Laura Etna Rosso IGP is made from 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio. These grapes are grown on mineral rich volcanic soils in vineyards dating back to the early 1900's, planted on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in Contrada Verzella, a village in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, located in the Province of Catania, in the Southern Italian Region of Sicilia.
After Hand harvesting the grapes are fermented at controlled temperatures in small stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 500 liter French oak
tonneaux and followed by a further period of 6 months of bottle fining. In the glass the wine is a vibrant burgundy red color. The nose is highly complex with aromas of dried red flowers, fresh berries, cherries, freshly ground coffee and mineral notes.
On the palate the wine is layered with flavors of black cherries, wild raspberries, cooking herbs, balsamic, hints of volcanic minerals, salient salinity, mouth filling smooth tannins, brisk acidity and a long persistent finish.
This wine will pair well with Aged Cheeses, Assorted
Salumi, Red Meats, and Meaty Pasta Dishes.

Phenomenal wine from Sicily April 19, 2018

This amazing wine made me fall in love with Sicily!
Loved the spicy aroma it has when it opens up, and the the longlasting notes it has in your mouth.
I had it in an Italian restaurant in San Francisco.
