2014 Quartomoro Orriu Cannonau is made from 100% Cannonau grapes from 14-years-old
vines, grown on sandy and granitic soil in the Province of Oristano, in Western
Sardegna. Granitic soils give personality to the Cannonau
and the altitudes give it the fresh-acidic vein that allows longevity. The grapes are
hand-harvested, and fermented for 7 days. Afterward, the wine is aged in
stainless steel barrels for 6 months, then in used barriques, and it is refined
for at least 6 months in the bottle prior to release.
This complex wine has a light burgundy red color. On the nose, it is
spicy and fruity with aromas of ripe dark berry. The palate is fine and fresh,
with flavors of currants and spices, along with soft tannins, bright acidity, and a long finish.
Pair with vegetable
pasta dishes, assorted salumi, and aged cheeses such as
pecorino Sardo.
