The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is a big, full-bodied wine bursting with fruit and sheer energy. Plums, black cherries, licorice, French oak, smoke and tar emerge from this nicely articulated Brunello. Slightly roasted, high-toned aromas of red berry liqueur, black cherry, licorice, smoke and leather. Plump, sweet and already quite expressive, with a very ripe cherry flavor complicated by coffee and mocha notes and a suggestion of marzipan. Finishes with sweet tannins. In a plush style, for drinking over the next ten years. Pairs perfectly with red meat and roasts as well as aged cheeses. Stephen Tanzer 91 Points
