Ischia DOC is located on the island
of Ischia, the largest of the Phlegrean
islands, in the Bay of Naples in Campania. Its vine heritage dates back to 700
BC.
Dei Mille Anni
made of mainly Perepalummo
grape, also called Piedirosso in Campania. Perepalummo
is the dialect translation of “for the pigeon”, and Piedirosso
(“red feet” in Italian) is referred to the red feet of the pigeon, reflecting
the bottom of the vine, which used to be red similar to the feet of a pigeon.
The rest of the blend is composed of Aglianico
and Cabertnet.
This full-bodied red wine is driven by the volcanic and mineral influences of
the Island, with essence of Mediterranean sea salt on the palate. Smooth,
round, and complex, it has aromas of raspberry, currant, ripe plum, dark
chocolate, tobacco, ripe red cherry, and licorice on the finish. Here, you can
really experience a wine with the purity of Ischia terroir
and no manipulation.
Ready
to drink now, but with an outstanding ageing potential, it is excellent with
pork, red meats, rich pastas, and cheese.
