6 Muras Carignano Rosso 2011 is 100% Carignano del Sulcis from traditional, ungrafted vines that are from 50 to 100 years old. The wine goes through a long maceration to bring out the unique flavors of the Carignano grape. Then it is aged for 18 months in oak and 6 months in the bottle. The result of this is a very powerful wine with a gorgeous character. Dark fruits with a long finish; this wine is like none other.
Sardinian vineyard 6Mura, pronounced sei mura meaning six walls, takes
its name from the “Su de Is Muras” which refers to a protected area in
the Inglesiente region and surrounding Giba.
The wines from 6Mura are an expression of the interaction between
soil and vine which gives a refined bouquet while enveloping the scent
and flavour of salty winds, all softened by the “sweet roundness of the
Mediterranean”. The vineyard’s 100 year old vines are located in the
sandy hills of Giba. With 30 hectares under vine, 6Mura produces 100,000
bottles per year. It is one of only 10% of European wineries using
Piede Franco (ungrafted vines).
This wine comes from old vines by the sea and on sandy soil. Rare, complex notes in the nose: plums and blueberries, sweet
spices, bay, juniper, tobacco and chocolate, Licorice, Helichrysum.
The palate is rich, warm, mellow, fruity and spicy notes, with suave tannins.
