Virna Borgogno and her husband Gianni Abrigo are particularly focused on expressions of cru Barolo. One of the most special wines of Virna is Cannubi Boschis Nebbiolo because of the depth and clarity of the fruit. The Cannubi Boschis hill is where these two different types of soil merge, and this is why the Cannubi cru has become so famous, combining the elegance of one with the power of the other.
After Malolactic fermentation in spring, 50% of the wine is decanted in to Tonneau for 18 months and 50% in Slavonian oak barrels, in which it matures for 6 to 12 months after which they get blended together. This wine is bottled unfiltered and held for 12 months in the bottle before being made available for resale, only the best vintages are bottled as Riserva
This 2004 Barolo has a rich bouquet with scents of roses, truffles and wood spice. The palate is elegant and refined, it gains complexity as it airs releasing dark cherry, subtle spice, truffles and earthy undertones blending harmoniously into a silky smooth finish
