Located in the province of Potenza, Barile is the most renowned town in the Vulture basin for the production of Aglianico, one of the finest indigenous grape varieties, also praised by the poet Horace. The name "Arcà" is the acronym of Arcangelo and Carla. Arcangelo Giannattasio, a young entrepreneur, rediscovering the peculiarities of the village and making use of the managerial experience of his father Michele. The Arca is made from 100% Aglianico del Vulture D.O.C. grapes and is aged for 18 months in new small French oak barrels. It is a beautifully structured wine, produced by the Giannattasio family in the region of Basilicata for generations, and it has obtained many favorable appraisals from all the most illustrious tasters. The winery of Arcangelo Giannattasio is amongst the best in the area. Arca 2004 has a beautiful dark ruby red color, an intense nose composed of dark fruits, tobacco an spice, and on the palate it is deep, complex, mellow, and persistent. Ideal Pairings: Roasted Meats and Sharp Aged Cheeses.

5 of 5 Delightful June 23, 2017

I found a thirteen years old bottle of  Aglianico del Vulture (I'm estatic), aged enough to have mellowed out to near perfection in a bottle. Full body wine that still shows beautiful and persistent fruit flavors, robust yet mellow tannins, hints of spices and herbs and a mouth filling delightful finish.
